Eleven ACCAC teams appear in latest NJCAA rankings

NJCAA Volleyball, Women’s Soccer, and Men’s Soccer released their week four polls and this week’s NJCAA rankings feature 11 ACCAC teams with five teams ranked in the top five.

DI Men’s Soccer

Arizona Western comes in as the lone ACCAC team in the NJCAA DI Men’s Soccer top 20, holding steady at No. 2 for the fourth consecutive week after winning a pair of games over the weekend. The Matadors opened the week with a comeback win over Glendale, scoring two second-half goals to beat the Gauchos 3-2 before shutting out Eastern Arizona 4-0 on Saturday evening.

DII Men’s Soccer

Phoenix dropped one spot in the latest poll, falling to No. 2 after playing to a 1-1 draw with Mesa on Saturday. The Bears started the week with a suspended game against Chandler-Gilbert. The 1-1 draw snapped a five-game winning streak for the Bears to start the season.

Pima moved up one spot to No. 5 thanks to a week that included a 2-0 win over Scottsdale on Tuesday before recording their third consecutive shutout on Saturday, beating Glendale 4-0 at home. The Aztecs have won three straight games.

Mesa breaks into the top 10 after battling No. 2 Phoenix to a 1-1 draw at Phoenix College on Saturday night. The Thunderbirds have 1-1 draws against both No. 2 (D2) Phoenix and No. 2 (DI) Arizona Western this season and draw their last three games, stretching their unbeaten streak to five games.

DI Women’s Soccer

Arizona Western moved up one spot this week thanks to a dominating week which saw the Lady Matadors beat Glendale 9-0 on Tuesday before scoring six more goals in a 6-0 win over Eastern Arizona, in Yuma, on Saturday. The Lady Matadors have won five straight games.

DII Women’s Soccer

Phoenix enters the week as the lone ACCAC team ranked No. 1 in the nation, remaining undefeated with a 6-0 win at Chandler-Gilbert on Tuesday before scoring nine goals in a 9-0 win over Mesa on Saturday in Phoenix. The Bears have not allowed a goal in their last five games and have allowed just two total this season.

Scottsdale remained at No. 11 thanks to a 1-0-1 week that featured a big 12-0 win over GateWay on Saturday. The Fighting Artichokes set a season-high for goals in a game and bounced back after starting the week with a 2-2 draw against Pima in Tucson on Tuesday.

DI Volleyball

Arizona Western stayed put at No. 16 after spending the weekend in Las Vegas, winning two matches and dropping two matches in the Lady Coyote Classic. The Lady Matadors beat Southern Nevada and Snow, both in straight sets, while dropping matches to No. 14 Utah State Eastern and No. 15 Southern Idaho.

Eastern Arizona dropped to No. 20 after going 1-3 in four matches at the Lady Coyote Volleyball Classic in Las Vegas. The Gila Monsters opened the weekend with a 3-1 win over Snow before losing their next three matches to Utah State Eastern, Southern Idaho and Southern Nevada.

DII Volleyball

Scottsdale remained at No. 2 thanks to a week that included road wins at both Mesa and Glendale. The Fighting Artichokes started the week with a straight set win over Mesa and then knocked off the Gauchos 3-1 two nights later. The Fighting Artichokes have only dropped two sets all season.

Chandler-Gilbert dropped four spots to No. 16 after going 1-1 this past week. The Coyotes started the week with a 3-0 win over Pima at home before falling in five sets at South Mountain on Friday night.
