The Region I men's soccer playoffs began Tuesday with one close game and two blowouts in the quarter-final round.
In the tight contest, Chandler-Gilbert edged Scottsdale, 3-2, on a goal by Abdullahi Mohammed with less than a minute remaining. With goals by Drake Hampton and Omar Felix, SCC had taken a 2-1 lead. However, the Coyotes' Michael Johansson tallied in the 87th minute to tie it, just prior to Muhammed's game-winner.
In other action, Phoenix defeated GateWay, 11-1, as Anthony Hildalgo, Marcos Mora and Paul Molinares each scored twice. Brazil Cruz-Zamora had the Geckos' goal.
Paradise Valley scored six times in the second half to win 8-1 over Glendale. Enrique Arellano and Luis Angulo had two goals each for PVCC. Mahamoud Almasri scored GCC's goal.
